Horde Wars Session 03 - Finally
It's utterly ridiculous that we let this whole thing hang for a solid month, but life has happened here at the Friend Folio house. The kids started school again. I became busy with some big IRL stuff. Today, however, we finally got a chance to put a bow on it all. And the funny thing is, it only really took one turn to finish up. Part of the reason this took so long to get to is that we didn't have a particular time and day set aside. I had been hoping to just be able to grab the kids and make it happen in the regular flow of the week. But that isn't how things worked out. As a family we agreed that when I come back from the trip I'm headed on we'll set a regular time to play.
In any case, on to the action!
At the end of the previous turn, Fant's Thieves' Guild and Logen's Orc Warband had both been completely wiped out. As a result, the two of them decided to join up with others. Fant threw in with the Elves to assist Dungeoness. Logen joined up with Andromeda in the Assassin's Guild.
Ulrik decided to abandon the Dwarves' "temporary" base and consolidate all his troops at Chrysopolis. Meanwhile, Dungeoness decided to conscript some more troops from the town of Fahlian before heading back to Chrysopolis. Finally, Andromeda wanted to make good on her contract to assassinate the Dwarven Lord (who is not Ulrik himself, Ulrik was the second-in-command).
Since Andromeda's turn came before Ulrik's I ruled that her assassination attempt would take place before the Dwarves finished leaving their old base. This was fortuitous for her. With some really great stealth rolls (opposed by the Dwarves' senses rolls) Andromeda, Logen, and the assassins with them got past the Dwarven patrols and cornered the Dwarven Thane in his room. Within three rounds, the Dwarven Thane was dead, though he did take one assassin down with him.
Meanwhile, Dungeoness conscripted her troops and then immediately offered a peace treaty to Ulrik. The deal was to rule Chrysopolis together in a joint venture.
Ulrik accepted, and in light of the fact that his Thane had been killed, his troops elevated him as Lord of the Dwarves in Chrysopolis. I'll have to figure out how this affects his character going forward, but I'm thinking that under a joint-rule situation with the Elves, power and its monetary rewards will be rather distributed. Ulrik may be little more than a figurehead.
With that, our table is set to see how the adventurers may come together to face a new threat in more traditional adventuring play.
