Game Master Tools
Things that are especially useful for Game Masters or others helping to prepare adventure material.
- Arbiter of Worlds: amazon.com - Not really a "tool," but an essential book for being a great Game Master.
- Dungeon Scrawl: dungeonscrawl.com - A simple and useful online mapper.
- Watabou's ProcGen Arcana: github.io - Random generators for beautiful one-page dungeon maps, villages, streets, and even individual manor houses.
- Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator: github.io - Not recommended, even though I used it before I knew what I was doing. Use the method in Arbiter of Worlds (above) for making your initial campaign map. However, this tool will makes entire worlds or continents with high verisimilitude. Height maps, biomes, rivers, nations and cities with populations, etc. Many configurable and customizable options, including manual placement of nearly all elements of the map.
- The Domesday Book: rpglibrary.org - Gives realistic statistics on population of various settlements in medieval times based on landmass, whether we're talking about cities, towns, or villages, etc. Very useful for considering what your characters should find in a fantasy settlement of particular populations.
